Sonny Red Sox Gem (Bear)
Bear is a 19 year old registered American Quarter Horse gelding. He has been a very important and loved part of Pahma Ranch for over 8 years now. We first wanted to purchase Bear after we saw him at a local arena babysitting. There were 3 children scrambling to try to get on his back, he stood there completely still (probably hoping they wouldn't make it so he wouldn't have to work). We knew his owner and persistently asked if he would sell for years. Then one day years later his owner said Bear wasn't being used and he would let us borrow him for the summer. Well, lets just say the "borrow" concept didn't last very long since about 2 weeks into the summer we made an agreement to purchase him.
Since then he has definitely proved his weight in gold. He is a completely bomb proof trail horse, going anywhere and everywhere you ask him too. He is also proving to be a very good 4-H horse. He gets a little worried about his pasture mates and whinnies when he's in the arena but he does everything he's asked and stands perfectly still when told. Though Bear is 19, he is still an incredible athlete and will do speed events like any other horse. He is very fast and was used in roping many years ago with his old owner. I have also jumped him over a few fallen trees on trail rides and he has excellent form when jumping. Although Bear is an incredible, athletic horse he prefers to just walk around with you bareback, which he gets plenty of.
All in all Bear is probably the most incredible horse I have ever had or ridden. I wouldn't trade him for millions of dollars, and I am not exaggerating with that statement. As my horse, he is the love of my life, and anyone else that rides him or learns to ride on him falls for him too. He is the best horse a teenage girl could ask for, he may not be the most extravagant, best pedigreed, or fanciest show horse. But he is better then all of that, and I couldn't imagine life without him. He will forever have a home at Pahma Ranch with me.
